Washdown Motors from Elwood

Comment. I would like to hear from any of you that have used an Aluminum housed motor in an application formerly using a Stainless Steel Motor, an application requiring pressurized washing with caustic chemicals. Were you satisfied by the performance and reliability?

09/08/2005 - Designed as a lower-cost alternative to all-stainless steel motors, Elwood-Gettys' severe-duty servo motors are built to withstand dust, strong jets of water and immersion.
Stainless steel is usually used in food processing plant equipment for sanitary reasons. Stainless steel is also easier to wash and clean than most other metals.
SD-series motors are designed for use in the beef, poultry, dairy and pharmaceutical industries where cleaning solutions and solvents can range from a pH of 1 to 13.
Gettys' motors use an aluminum housing that is hard-coat annodised and teflon coated to protect against corrosion and provide a non-stick finish.This gives maximum thermal efficiency to ensure the motors get rid of heat quickly.
All other external components are made of 300 series stainless steel. The design, using a single-piece motor and feedback housing, minimises the risk that food particles get entrapped in theequipment.
A non-contact stainless shaft seal provides maintenance-free protection against moisture intrusion around the shaft opening.
The motors are rated at 66 under the Ingress Protection (IP) international standard for hermetically sealed equipment. The ratings denote that the machines are completely protected against dust andstrong jets of water.
Gettys claims the motors exceed the standard and can also 'withstand the effects of immersion". However only motors rated as IP67 under the standard can claim to be protected from immersionbetween 15cm and 1m.
Servo motors are used to control the motion of various equipment, such as conveyors or robots, in plants.
